A recognizable form, a user-friendly design, and modularity—these were the design objectives for the “Express” self-checkout kiosk. It is the latest addition to the product family of the retail technology company “StrongPoint.” When creating the device, the industrial design studio “Desdorp” sought to use recognizable elements: expressive light strips, curved lines, and minimalist, user-friendly forms. The design of these checkouts creates a connection between technology and people. The lights communicate with staff, the screen guides the shopper, and the silhouette integrates seamlessly into the environment. The modular principle allows the checkout to be adapted to a wide range of contexts: from grocery stores to bookstores. At the “Pegasas” bookstore, these cash registers assist shoppers and organically complement the store’s character.
